Problems written as specifications, not aspirations — with the record of what has been tried, including what failed. The failures are the part that does not exist anywhere else. The five below are illustrations of the format, written to show what the Library requires. No industrial party has submitted to this prototype.

The Library only works if problems arrive as specifications. “We need better magnets” cannot be searched against or tested. “Coercivity of 14 kOe at 180 °C, no dysprosium, existing sintering line, at most 110% of current cost” can. This form asks for the second kind.

Read the distribution carefully. The corpus is sampled per element across the critical, strategic and by-product lists, so it contains constrained materials by construction. These proportions describe this sample. They are not a statement about materials in general, and a random sample would look quite different.

Properties come with them, so the corpus answers the question no existing database can: materials with this property that avoid critical elements.
